Half of site visitors find mutual support helps their depression
We recently asked people on this site if they think talking to other people who have experienced depression and anxiety can help. Of the people who replied, 50% said it helped
Most of these people said that chatting to someone else with a similar experience said that talking helped them feel like they were not alone. The rest said that they benefited from the mutual support.
Of the remaining 50%, just under half said that they don't like talking about how they feel or what is wrong. A sizable number said that they'd like to talk to someone who has experienced depression but didn't know anyone while the rest thought talking to someone else would just be a case of comparing problems.
Like all treatment for depression, it seems that whether mutual support is helpful depends on the individual. For some people talking to others with depression can be reassuring and supportive while others do not want to talk about how they are feeling and for a third group sharing experience can lead to a negative sharing of problems.
If you're someone who finds talking to other people helpful and supportive or would like to meet others in a similar situation come and join our friendly community. If that's not for you, and you would like to speak to someone, you can email us in confidence on ask@lookokfeelcrap.org or check out all the information on the site.
