If you are having suicidal thoughts or have started making plans to commit suicide please talk to someone immediately.
Talking isn’t always easy, and if you find it hard talking about your feelings to friends and family there are organisations that can help:
- Telephone helplines, like the Samaritans (08457 90 90 90) and Breathing Space (0800 83 85 87), are run by trained advisors and all calls are confidential. They are there to listen to you.
- Many health boards also have local mental health crisis teams. Phone your local hospital and ask. You’ll find the contact phone number of your local hospital on the web or the front of your phone-book.
- If you need to see someone immediately go to your A&E department and ask to see one of their psychiatric staff. Phone 999 and ask for an ambulance, if you can’t get there on your own. If you’ve taken an overdose it is important that you phone 999 as soon as possible.
There are numbers listed in the box on the right.
Many people who are contemplating suicide don’t want to die, they just want the pain to go away. It is important to remember that even though life seems unbearable now, things can and often do improve. Even if you can’t imagine that at the moment.
You can also email us at ask@lookokfeelcrap.org, but because we do not run a crisis service we cannot usually respond straight away.
If you want to know how to help someone else who may be suicidal, read our page with advice on how to help.
